Forum Program

Time and Location

The first Forum meeting will be held between 5-8 February 2006 at the Sebel Heritage in the Yarra Valley. It will be a residential program away from distractions (a social island).

Forum Process

On acceptance of the invitation to participate, invitees have been asked to prepare a 500 word statement outlining their aspirations for the 15-20 year future of Australia, and challenges they feel need to be met in getting there. This will provide an important take-off point for conference discussion.

Participants have been invited as individuals and not as representatives of their sectors/organisations and their statements should reflect their personal views.

The Forum will be run broadly on search conference lines, which maximises direct input and control of the process by participants as the conference dynamics evolve. This is a sophisticated process which requires experienced professional leadership from expert facilitators. It will involve some direct input by short presentations at various parts of proceedings, group discussions and plenary feedback.

The Forum will have keynote speeches spaced throughout the program as stimulants and provocative interventions.

The Forum will be run under the Chatham House Rule. "When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed".

Media

The working sessions will be closed to the media. However, media reports will be issued on progress and general issues as the Forum proceeds.
